You Feel Behind… But You’re Not Forgotten

Scripture Focus (NKJV)

“For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name…”
— Hebrews 6:10

Devotional

There are seasons in our journey where it can feel like we are pouring out effort with very little visible return.

We study for hours, yet still feel behind.
We show up consistently, yet feel unnoticed.
We give our best, yet question whether it is enough.

In these moments, a quiet thought can begin to form:

Does any of this actually matter?

Not in a dramatic way, but in a subtle, lingering way that sits beneath the surface of our daily routines.

Hebrews 6 speaks directly into that space.

After giving a serious warning about spiritual responsiveness, the writer shifts his tone and reminds believers of something deeply reassuring: God is not unjust to forget.

That statement alone carries so much weight.

Because while people may overlook our effort,
while systems may not always reflect our growth,
while outcomes may not immediately validate our work—

God sees.

He sees the hours no one else notices.
He sees the discipline it takes to keep going.
He sees the moments where we choose integrity over ease.
He sees the quiet decisions to honor Him, even when no one else is watching.

And not only does He see, He remembers.

I remember a season where I felt like I was doing everything I could to stay consistent—studying, trying to grow, trying to remain faithful—and yet nothing felt like it was moving the way I expected. It felt slow. It felt unseen. And if I’m honest, it felt discouraging.

It’s in those seasons that we are most tempted to give up—not because we don’t care, but because we feel like our effort isn’t producing anything meaningful.

But Hebrews reminds us that our work is not measured only by what we see.

It is measured by what God sees.

And what He sees is not just our performance—but our labor of love.

That phrase is important.

God is not only looking at what we do, but why we do it.

Every time we:

  • keep showing up

  • keep trusting

  • keep choosing obedience

  • keep honoring Him in small ways

it is seen as an act of love toward His name.

For students in healthcare, this is incredibly important.

Because so much of this journey can feel transactional:

  • grades

  • evaluations

  • performance metrics

But our walk with God is not transactional.

It is relational.

And in that relationship, nothing done in faith is wasted.

Nothing done in love is forgotten.

Even when progress feels slow, God is still working.

Even when outcomes don’t match our expectations, God is still forming something deeper within us.

Even when we feel unseen, we are not unnoticed.

God does not measure our lives the way the world does.
He sees what others overlook and values what others cannot measure.

And this truth gives us the strength to continue.

To keep showing up.
To keep trusting.
To keep walking faithfully—even when the results are not immediately visible.

Because our effort is not in vain.

God sees.
God remembers.
And God is faithful.

Reflection Questions

Where in this season have we felt unseen or discouraged in our efforts?

Have we been measuring our progress only by visible outcomes rather than by faithfulness?

How might our perspective shift if we truly believed that God sees and remembers everything done in love?

Application

Today, remind yourself that your effort is not unnoticed. As you go through your responsibilities, consciously offer your work to God as an act of love rather than as a means of validation. Let faithfulness become your focus, trusting that God sees what others may not.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for seeing what others may overlook and for remembering every act of faithfulness. When we feel discouraged or unseen, remind us that our work matters to You. Help us to remain faithful, not for recognition, but out of love for You. Strengthen our hearts to keep going, knowing that nothing done in You is ever wasted.

Amen.
