You Weren’t Meant to Do This Alone

Scripture Focus (NKJV)

“And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together… but exhorting one another…”
— Hebrews 10:24–25

Devotional

It’s easy to get used to doing everything on your own.

You learn how to manage your schedule, carry your responsibilities, and push through your workload without needing much from anyone else. You figure things out, you adjust, you keep going. And over time, independence starts to feel like strength.

Especially in healthcare training, this becomes almost second nature.

Everyone is busy. Everyone is focused. Everyone is trying to stay afloat in their own way. So instead of reaching out, you handle things internally. You process your stress quietly. You deal with your struggles privately. And even in moments where you feel overwhelmed, you tell yourself you’ll get through it.

And most of the time, you do.

But something about it still feels… heavy.

Not because you’re incapable.

But because you were never meant to carry it alone.

Hebrews 10 brings this into focus in a very direct and intentional way. It does not just encourage personal faith or individual consistency. It calls us to consider one another—to actively think about how we can encourage, strengthen, and support each other in love and in good works.

That means something important.

Our growth was never designed to happen in isolation.

I remember a season where I was trying to stay consistent spiritually while also managing everything else in my life. I was showing up, doing what I needed to do, but internally I felt like I was carrying more than I was letting anyone see. And if I’m honest, part of me believed that I should be able to handle it on my own.

But over time, I started to notice that the more I isolated, the heavier everything felt.

It wasn’t that my circumstances changed.

It was that I had removed the support God had already provided through people.

Hebrews reminds us that there is something powerful that happens when we are connected to others who are also pursuing God. Encouragement is not just something we occasionally need—it is something we are meant to experience regularly.

“Exhort one another daily…”

That word exhort means to encourage, to strengthen, to remind someone of truth when they may not be seeing it clearly themselves.

For those of us in healthcare training, this is especially important.

Because there will be days when you feel strong.

But there will also be days when you feel tired, discouraged, or unsure.

And in those moments, having someone who can remind you of truth, pray with you, or simply check in on you can make all the difference.

Not because you are weak.

But because you are human.

And because God never intended for you to walk this journey alone.

Independence may feel strong, but isolation slowly drains you.

Community, on the other hand, sustains you.

It helps you stay anchored when your thoughts feel scattered.
It reminds you of truth when your perspective feels off.
It lifts you when your strength feels low.

And just as importantly, it allows you to do the same for others.

You are not just called to grow.
You are called to grow with others.

And when you begin to lean into that, something shifts.

You stop carrying everything silently.

You start allowing yourself to be supported.

You begin to experience faith not just as something personal, but as something shared.

And that is where strength multiplies.

Reflection Questions

Have we been trying to navigate our journey mostly on our own?

In what ways might we be isolating instead of allowing others to walk with us?

Who in our lives can we both receive encouragement from and give encouragement to?

Application

Today, take one step toward connection. Reach out to someone you trust, whether it’s to check in, share honestly, or simply reconnect. If you already have community, be intentional about encouraging someone else. Let this be a reminder that growth is not meant to happen alone.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for not designing us to walk this journey alone. Help us to recognize where we have isolated ourselves and give us the courage to step into community. Surround us with people who will encourage and strengthen us, and help us to do the same for others. Teach us to grow together in faith.

Amen.
