There Is Still a Sunrise Coming

Darkness feels different when you do not know how much longer it will last. You have been up long enough to lose track of the hours, and somewhere in that stretch a quieter fear starts to form, one that has less to do with the dark itself and more to do with whether morning is actually still coming.

Malachi ends its final chapter answering that fear directly.

But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings.

(Malachi 4:2, KJV)

This is worth pausing on, given what the rest of the book had just spent three chapters confronting. Malachi does not end after a season of ease. It ends after spiritual drift, empty worship, and a people cynical enough to ask God to prove He was still paying attention. And after all of that, the book does not close in darkness. It closes looking forward, toward a sunrise that had not risen yet.

Malachi stands near the close of the Old Testament prophetic writings. From the perspective of the Christian canon, generations would pass before the coming of Christ, and generations waited without seeing the fulfillment Christians recognize in Him. For Christians, that promised rising ultimately directs our hope toward Christ, who came after generations of waiting.

What that means for you is simple, even if it is not small. Not having clarity this week is not proof that God is absent or inactive. It may simply mean you are living in the space between the promise and its fulfillment, the same space every generation before Christ lived in, hoping for a sunrise they trusted was coming even though they could not see it yet.

You have spent this week learning to look at Him instead of only the problem, to give Him your full attention instead of your leftovers, to let a hard season expose what needed exposing, and to return instead of staying at a distance out of shame. Let this be where it lands. Whatever has felt dark this week, whatever has felt unresolved, it is not the end of the story.

Where have you mistaken God’s silence for God’s absence this week?

Prayer

God of the sunrise, thank You that You are not finished simply because this season has felt quiet. I have spent this week learning to look at You, to give You my attention, to let pressure expose what needed exposing, and to return when I had drifted. Let me end it still expecting You, trusting that what You promise, You bring to pass. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Before You Go

Whatever has felt unresolved this week, name it, and then say this out loud: this is not the end of the story.
