Scripture Focus (NKJV)
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
— Proverbs 3:5–6
Devotional
There is something about this time of year that quietly creates pressure.
We see people graduating, stepping into new roles, announcing their next steps, and moving forward in ways that look clear and defined. And even when we are genuinely happy for them, it can stir something within us that makes us pause and look at our own lives a little more closely.
We begin to ask ourselves questions we may not have been thinking about before.
What is my next step?
Am I where I am supposed to be?
Why does it feel like everyone else has a plan while I am still figuring things out?
And even if we do have a plan, there can still be a quiet pressure to make sure everything works out the way we expect. We want clarity. We want direction. We want to feel certain that what we are doing is leading somewhere meaningful.
But if we are honest, much of this journey does not come with that level of certainty.
There are seasons where we are simply taking the next step without seeing the full picture.
And that can feel uncomfortable.
For many of us in healthcare training, we are used to structure. We are taught to think ahead, plan carefully, and prepare for what is coming next. So when life places us in a season where we do not have all the answers, it can feel like we are doing something wrong.
But Proverbs 3 gently reminds us of something we often forget.
We were never meant to figure everything out on our own.
We are called to trust, not to control.
That distinction matters.
Because trying to figure everything out places the weight on us.
Trusting God places the weight back where it belongs.
I remember seasons where I felt the pressure to have everything mapped out. I wanted to know how things would unfold, when they would happen, and what the outcome would be. And when I did not have those answers, it created a quiet anxiety that followed me through my day.
But over time, I began to understand that clarity is not always given in advance.
Sometimes, it is revealed in steps.
God does not always show us the entire path.
He shows us enough to move forward.
And that is intentional.
Because if we could see everything, we would rely on what we see instead of learning to trust Him.
For those of us in transition seasons, this truth is deeply reassuring.
We do not need to have everything figured out to move forward.
We do not need to know every detail to be on the right path.
We do not need to feel certain to be aligned with God’s will.
You are not behind because you don’t have all the answers.
You are being led, even in the places where you don’t have clarity yet.
This season is not about having a perfect plan.
It is about learning to trust a faithful God.
And when we begin to rest in that, something shifts.
The pressure to figure everything out starts to loosen.
The anxiety around the future begins to settle.
And we are able to take the next step with a little more peace, knowing that we are not walking alone.
Reflection Questions
Have we been placing pressure on ourselves to have everything figured out right now?
In what areas do we feel uncertain about what comes next?
What would it look like for us to trust God with what we do not yet understand?
Application
Today, take one area where you feel uncertain about the future and bring it honestly before God. Instead of trying to solve it, release it. Remind yourself that you only need to take the next step, not see the entire path.
Prayer
Lord, help us to release the pressure of trying to figure everything out on our own. Teach us to trust You with the parts of our journey that feel unclear. Give us peace in the unknown and confidence that You are guiding us, even when we cannot see the full picture.
Amen.
